Italy

Considered one of the most important Italian writers for children and young people, Bianca Pitzorno has published over forty books. Apart from her writing career, she has collaborated with cultural programmes for the state-owned broadcaster RAI. She has also written plays, critical essays, song lyrics and scenarios and screenplays for the cinema.

Her first book, published in 1970, was followed by many others, almost always aimed at children, who find it easy to identify with characters that the author always tries to portray with a strong ethical dimension. Her novels address a multitude of social and political problems while remaining imaginative, stylish, and amusing.

Pitzorno’s books have been translated into French, German, Spanish, Greek, Polish, Hungarian, Korean and Japanese. She has been appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and has received many awards and distinctions, including the Andersen Il Mondo dell’Infanzia and the Castello di Sanguinetto Awards.
