2017 Appeal for the IBBY Libraries in Gaza
Ten years have passed since the IBBY libraries were set up in Gaza. For many children, the IBBY libraries are a sanctuary and place of hope: they continue to need our support and focus, and importantly – not let them become forgotten.
The launch of this new appeal for funds to keep these libraries open and active is to give them hope and lifeline to a better future. Find out more information and how to donate here.

IBBY World Congress 2018
Our world is in turmoil. At the start of the 2017 Bologna Children's Books Fair press conference I talked about promoting international understanding and the current tendency of building walls in order to separate nations from one another. We are now confronted by a situation that affects IBBY directly. Our colleagues in Turkey are dealing with a situation in their country that is beyond their control.
However, IBBY needs to react to world events, we are not immune.
So, with a really heavy heart as IBBY president I have to announce that the 2018 IBBY Congress that was scheduled to happen in Istanbul next September has been cancelled.
I want to sincerely thank our IBBY members in Turkey for their dedication, perseverance and good will. They have been preparing for this event for the last 4 years.
IBBY has a two-year cycle and therefore the IBBY network of members still needs to meet in 2018. The IBBY Executive Committee is looking into various feasible alternatives and we hope to announce a solution by the end of April this year.

Refugees: Children from Central America
The Other Refugees: Children from Central America
Sixty million people around the world became refugees in 2015. Half of them were children. Syrian refugees have been highly visible with good reason. But the approximately hundred and twenty thousand unaccompanied children from Central America that have made and are still making the very dangerous trip to try and find safety and a way to survive in the United States are virtually invisible. And there are an almost equal number of families with children (primarily single mothers) who have also arrived in the same period.
IBBY is committed to helping children in crisis, whether they are refugees in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania, North America or Latin America. IBBY looks for solutions. Read the call-to-action here
