IBBY Argentina: Books for children at hospital - The world is health: stories and tales in the hospital

The world is health: stories and tales in the hospital is a project to seeks to make available books especially tailored to the needs of children in hospital. Together with the paediatric unit of the Hospital E. TornĂº, ALIJA will lead writing workshops, establish small libraries and introduce the methods of bibliotherapy. The target groups are: children between 1 and 6 years old with delays in development, including speech; children between 7 and 11 years going through situations of family violence that can be helped by books and bibliotherapy; and the health teams which will be taught the value of a book culture. Small libraries will be established in different parts of the hospital and a series of regular activities will be set up, including: Babyteca (library for babies), a space for books and games for babies up to 2 years old with their adult caregivers; a group approach with books for children of 2 and 3 years with difficulties with verbal expression and their adult caregivers; as well as a group approach to music therapy for children 4 to 6 years and 7 to 11 years using games, reading aloud, rhymes and song. Workshops for adult caregivers will be provided in parallel to the group activities of the children. Training space will be provided for the members of the health team with workshops and external guests. The project has been moved to an online activity using video communication.
