Commentary
This bright, square picture book is a quality example of multilingual publishing for children. It contains seven nursery rhymes of Africa, each in a different South African language, followed by a catchy English translation. They are about frog, pig, chicken and a “mischievous bird,” butterfly, hare, spider, and ostrich. The double-spread pictures provide an accurate portrayal of character and situation. The verses (in rhythmic nursery rhyme style) are ideal for sharing aloud, and there is a guide to pronunciation at the end.
