Tambours pour la paix

Drums for Peace

Kigali, Rwanda: Editions Bakame, 2003. 32 p. Ages 6 and up.

Commentary
This collection of poems was written and illustrated by Rwandan, Burundian, Congolese, and Belgian children between the ages of 9 and 12 years. These poems express sensitively what the children went through during the genocide and war in Rwanda and Burundi, and they reveal the children’s awareness of the pain and havoc inflicted upon them in a time of war. The poems call upon adults to give a chance to peace and tolerance. They also invite their contemporaries throughout the world to unite and build a better world.
