IBBY-Yamada 2011: Bolivia

Libros en las plazas (Books in public squares)

During Saturday mornings in May ten plazas in Thuruchapitas became mobile libraries for children. The campaign Libros en las plazas (Books in public squares) was organized by the Thuruchapitas Library with support from the IBBY-Yamada Fund and IBBY Bolivia.

Volunteers from the Thuruchapitas Library, including trained animators, as well as drama groups and other performing artists participated to encourage reading of the more than 400 texts that were distributed throughout the city. Among the titles were fiction and poetry books for children from Bolivian authors such as Rosalba Guzman and Elizabeth Calvimontes Velia Mesa, as well as works by foreign writers such as Antonio Skarmeta, Lygia Bojunga and Ana Maria Machado. Over 600 children, adolescents and adults of all ages participated.
