A country that reads 2011 – 2012

The Ecuadorian children's and youth book association Girándula is IBBY's representative in Ecuador. Girándula comprises writers, illustrators and bookstores that work in the field of children's literature. Its main objective is to promote reading in children and youth across Ecuador.

For the past five years Girándula has successfully organized the Maratón del Cuento – A City that Reads, in the capital Quito, as well as organizing three Maratón del Cuento in Cuenca and once in Azogues. The Maratón del Cuento is designed as a promotional event that seeks to make reading and literature available to a broad spectrum of society. The event includes seminars, readings, story-telling events and other activities designed to promote reading.
