IBBY-Yamada 2021: Armenia

IBBY Armenia: Our corner in the big world - workshops for young adults in 5 regions of Armenia.

In 2020 IBBY Armenia established “reading corners” in libraries in five regions of Armenia where the rate of reading is lower than average: the Tavush, Syunik, Aragatsotn, Lori and Armavir regions. The new project aimed at developing these five reading centres into "creative" centres. The project had three parts: 3-day writing master classes for talented teenagers were held in the five regions; 3-day master classes with a librarian/media literacy specialist were held, during which participants read and discussed works from authors from the region as well as developed tools to analyse and evaluate messages from a variety of media forms; finally, 3-day master classes led by an art historian introduced the architectural, artistic and folk traditions of the regions. The sessions involved 120 participants from the five regions of Armenia and the best works of the workshops’ participants were published in a literary blog.
