At a time of uncertainty and change and many migration and integration issues in all our countries,  the IBBY library in Lampedusa invites all who are interested in using books as tools for change to come together in Lampedusa. We have to learn and understand what new challenges and possibilities can be gained from this experience. From Monday, 4 to Sunday, 10 November we are going to Lampedusa to work together on how to create a community library that is at the same time international and local; normal and yet extraordinary.

Tomi Ungerer, 1931- 2019

It was with great sadness that on Saturday morning we learned of the death of Tomi Ungerer on 8 February.  Ungerer received the 1998 Hans Christian Andersen Award for his illustrations.

“Ungerer is an artist of the unexpected: the surprise factor is essential to his books, and as an artist he has startled by constantly renewing himself, and by dealing with taboos and political correctness.” (The Hans Christian Andersen Awards, 1956-2002, by Eva Glistrup, 2002)

The message was posted by his family on Sunday:  https://twitter.com/tomiungerer/status/1094354370769096704?s=21

Our condolences go to his family.
