IBBY Ireland was founded in 1998 as a non-profit organisation with the aims of promoting children's books at a national and an international level. It endorsed the aims of IBBY to promote international understanding by endeavouring the development of international networks linking Ireland with the international children's book community.

The Section has had several projects including Storytelling from around the world, where one primary school worked with an illustrator / author to tell stories from their own cultures and Superhero, where an author/illustrator worked with children in a refugee centre to create their own superheroes, as well as activities for World Book Day.
