New IBBY Website: 2 April 2005

March 2005 / M. C. Posada

IBBY is proud to announce that 2 April 2005 sees the launch of the new

IBBY website! Every year International Children’s Book Day is

celebrated on 2 April, this year it is also the bicentennial of the

birth of Hans Christian Andersen, thus 2 April 2005 is the perfect day

to present IBBY`s renewed website.

Visit www.ibby.org and explore the world of international children’s

literature.

The new website offers a wealth of information, not only about IBBY,

but also about the development and trends in children’s and young

adults’ literature since the 1950s to the present. Although the

working language of the website is English, every major item on the

menu is presented in the four official IBBY languages: English,

French, German and Spanish.

The IBBY National Sections, currently 64 Sections, have a page

containing information about the section, its activities, as well as

their contact details. News from all over the world will give visitors

the latest updates of the most important events and IBBY’s activities,

including information about IBBY awards and projects. The Projects

section of the website gives information about IBBY’s projects around

the world and, in time, will become a meeting point for further

projects and ideas.

The Archives contain some of IBBY’s most valuable assets. Resources,

such as the past Congress Proceedings, the complete collection of

IBBY’s journal Bookbird from its beginnings in 1953, and all the

historical documents produced by IBBY over the years, make the

Archives an indispensable resource for researchers, students, as well

as for the general public interested in the history of children and

young adult literature. The digitization of the IBBY archives was

undertaken with the help of the Department for Digitization and

Digital Preservation at the University of Innsbruck Library, Austria.

The protected Members’ Site allows IBBY members access to documents

and information relevant to their membership, enabling them to keep

informed quickly and efficiently.
